The duel was decided to be held in the training ground located in the basement of the Balfont family mansion. This basement was deep underground and built to withstand a fair amount of impact, meaning no matter how much someone cried for help, no one would come to their aid. The smug look on Gillium’s face as he gave this cliché threat was amusing.
“I can’t believe Alphys-sama and Gillium-sama are dueling…”
“I’m sorry to say, but I don’t think Alphys-sama stands a chance.”
“He didn’t seem to be training at all.”
This news spread throughout the mansion, bringing not only the parents and siblings but even the servants to watch. They were free to say whatever they wanted, but this was as per the original story. Alphys acted like a big shot but was actually submissive to his brothers. No matter how much he trained, he couldn’t match up and was treated as a failure.
The reason for this was likely because he trained with his brothers in the basement. Being continuously beaten by overwhelmingly stronger opponents led to no growth. Additionally, Alphys lacked knowledge. But it meant nothing now.
“Alphys, are you prepared to be humiliated? Kekeke!”
“Gillium-nii-san, have you properly prepared? With a set of recovery items. This time, your enslaved monsters won’t help you, you know?”
“As if I need that crap for scum like you!”
++Gillium really does have a low boiling point. His pride is abnormally high, and he always looks down on the weak. And this isn’t meant as an insult; it is meant as advice.++
Gillium’s skills were all offensive with no defensive abilities at all. Since he couldn’t use any kind of healing magic, he was defeated more easily compared to his other brothers. In short, Gillium’s strength was dependent on the monsters he used.
“Alphys and Gillium, do you remember the terms of this duel?”
“Yes, Father. If I win, Lushel will make a contract with me. And I’ll have Gillium-nii-san wash the clothes of the servants that he soiled.”
“Yes, and if I win, Alphys will become my slave. The outcome is already obvious, so there’s no need to confirm.”
Even though he was hands-off, Leorg seemed to be properly officiating the duel. As the head of the family, he couldn’t tolerate disputes. However, if I complained about Gillium’s harassment, I would probably get scolded instead. Leorg despised weak individuals, considering them useless as his pawns.
“The weapons to be used are wooden swords. If either of you gives up, the duel will end. Give it your all.”
As Leorg declared, Gillium and I took up our weapons. It would be reckless for a seven-year-old like me to challenge a ten-year-old Gillium under normal circumstances. ++Under normal circumstances, that is.++
“Kekeke, my foolish little brother. Look at this. Do you know what this is?”
“Magic?”
“Ah? Y-yes, that’s right. Something you can’t possibly use.”
“Well, not really… like this?”
Gillium was pleased with himself for infusing his wooden sword with magic, but I did the same. Gillium’s confident expression hardened.
“W-what! You can use magic too?!”
“Did you think I couldn’t do it because I’m seven years old? Don’t underestimate me. In fact, I’m way ahead of you. Like this.”
I converted my magical power into the dark attribute. The black wooden sword now radiated dark magic. Each character had their own strengths when it came to weapons and magic.
Finding out these things was one of the fun parts of “Princess Sword.” Although my strategy wiki had revealed this instantly, using a weapon or magic one wasn’t skilled in would naturally result in slower growth.
It could even cap out one’s abilities, leading to a failed development. Alphys’s preferred magic attribute was the dark attribute, and his weapon was a sword. I knew this from the moment I was born. In contrast, Gillium seemed yet to find his preference.
“Dark magic?! How can you use that?!”
“How? It’s not like I didn’t do anything either. I was working hard even when you were satisfied with having monsters around you.”
“Dammit! Even with dark magic, my magical power is superior to yours!”
Gillium, enraged, charged at me with his wooden sword. It was likely powerful due to its magic power, but his movements were slow. I easily blocked it.
“Damn! It won’t move!”
“Gillium-nii-san, have you been training properly? Or are you still going easy on me?”
“Shut up!”
Gillium retreated and then charged again. I released a bit of the dark magic enveloping my sword. The dark mist covered Gillium-nii-san’s face.
“I can’t see anything! What’s going on?”
“Dark magic can do this. Swinging wildly won’t hit anything. Instead…”
I hit Gillium in the stomach as he was attacking in the wrong direction with his wooden sword.
“Gahaah!”
“It makes you more vulnerable and leads to things like this.”
Gillium stood unsteadily, clutching his stomach. There were murmurs all around; it seemed no one had expected this turn of events.
“Alphys-sama used dark magic?”
“Magic power at that age… and even more so, being able to use attribute magic…”
Gillium wasn’t particularly skilled with magic. Simple magical enhancements like earlier were possible, but he mainly relied on physical attacks. While that was not inherently bad, his strength was undeniably dependent on his tamed monsters.
“D-damn it!”
“Are you not going to surrender?”
“Who would surrender to you!”
“Well… then I’ll show you one more thing to make you want to do that.”
I drew out something other than magic from deep within my body. The wooden sword was imbued with a wave of energy. When I was born, my mother, Lizania, felt a powerful wave within me.
This was essentially the innate power humans possess within themselves. Although the nature of each person was different, my waves were destructive. It was only recently that I had been able to pull this off, and at the moment, I could only sustain it for a short period of time. However, in the Balfont family, only the eldest son and daughter, other than the parents, could control waves.
“W-what is that… dark magic and something else mixed into the wooden sword…”
“I can’t maintain this for long. So let’s end this.”
“H-haak!?”
Completely frightened, Gillium hesitantly tried to block the attack by using his wooden sword as a shield. I slammed my wooden sword, imbued with dark magic and destructive waves, into it. As a result, Gillium’s wooden sword broke into pieces with a loud crack.
“Ah! Hyaah! What is this?!”
“My wave is destruction. This wooden sword has the power to destroy everything. Do you understand what that means?”
“S-stop it! Damn it! Please stop!”
“No.”
I hit Gillium with the wooden sword. The sword dug into his stomach, causing him to cough blood and be blown away. As he fell, Gillium spurted out another gush of blood, then stopped moving.
“I was lying. I deactivated the wave before hitting, so it’s fine… huh? I’m in trouble; I can’t hear you. Well then, I guess I have no choice but to finish you off.”
“That’s enough. The match is over.”
Leorg looked down at me with a stern expression. ++What is it, World King?++
“Alphys, where did you learn that?”
“By myself. I discovered it by chance. More importantly, the promise.”
“Ah, that angel girl. Hey.”
At Leorg’s call, Lushel, who had been watching the fight, approached me timidly. ++Is she fidgeting because she needs to use the bathroom?++
“Um, well, Alphys-sama… uh, thank you…”
“You seem a bit timid, don’t you think?”
++I’m pretty sure she was a really cheeky character. Well, I guess it would be best if she can just be quiet.++
