Chapter 2: My Girlfriend Was Stolen

I witnessed my girlfriend’s affair, and I continued to watch them chatting happily through the window. Akagi-senpai was tall and had a different aura than me. Chiharu, beside him, looked like she was in another world. Whatever funny story Akagi-senpai told, it made Chiharu laugh heartily. Her smile was the same as the one I knew, yet somehow she felt like a distant presence.

“What am I even doing…?”

I questioned myself inwardly. I never thought that my recent busyness, which prevented me from making time for Chiharu, would come back to haunt me in this way. I left the spot and hurriedly rushed out of the cafe. A whirlwind of complex emotions swirled within me. Every time I thought about the relationship between Chiharu and Akagi-senpai, anxiety and jealousy mixed within me.

After that, I started to follow the two of them. I desperately tried not to lose sight of their backs as I navigated through the hustle and bustle of the city. Eventually, they turned into a quiet alley with fewer people around. I continued chasing after them, breathless. My heart pounded like a drum, and a feeling of unease, that something bad was about to happen, tightened my chest.

Then, a scene I couldn’t believe spread before me. I saw Chiharu and Akagi-senpai entering a love hotel together. Chiharu, with another man, at a love hotel….

Of course, I had never been to a love hotel. However, even I, a high school student, knew what kind of place it was and what people did there. Incidentally, I was a virgin and had never had that kind of experience with her.

++This is strange. I’m Chiharu’s boyfriend… So why is she about to enter a love hotel with another man? It makes no sense. Or rather, it feels like my brain is refusing to comprehend it.++

“This can’t be happening…”

My girlfriend was stolen by another guy… I stood there dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe the reality before me. I felt a pain as if my heart was being squeezed, and my whole body froze as if I couldn’t move. I thought I trusted Chiharu, but I couldn’t do anything. All I could do was watch as she went off with another guy.

Happy memories with Chiharu flooded my mind, one after another, and it felt like they were all disappearing.

After witnessing Chiharu enter the love hotel with Akagi-senpai, I just kept walking. I didn’t know where I was going; my feet just moved on their own. Before I knew it, I had wandered into a quiet park far from the city center.

I sat down on a park bench and remained slumped over for hours. I lost track of time as I felt the scenery around me change. The moment shifted from evening to night, and the streetlights began to glow faintly.

Amidst all this, I heard a girl’s troubled voice from afar. It seemed like someone was being persistently hit on outside the park. I lifted my heavy body and headed towards the direction of the voice. Even in my current state, I couldn’t ignore someone in trouble. Under the streetlight, a girl was being persistently pestered by a man. The girl was clearly uncomfortable and refused repeatedly, but the man showed no signs of backing down.

“Excuse me, it seems like she’s in trouble… Please stop.”

When I approached and said that, the man turned around and glared at me.

“What’s your problem? This has nothing to do with you.”

The other party didn’t seem to back down easily either…. But I couldn’t back down here.

“But it’s clear she’s uncomfortable. If you keep bothering her, I’ll keep getting in your way.”

The man hesitated for a moment and clicked his tongue.

“Tch, what a pain…”

Muttering that, he finally walked away.

As I breathed a sigh of relief at his retreating figure, I heard a voice from behind.

“Oh, thank you… Amagi-kun.”

++Huh, my name? How does she know…?++ As I turned around with that thought, I saw Shirasaki-san standing there.
