Chapter 9: Weiss and Barbaro

The name Barbaro is an unforgettable character for a Weiss fan. He appears as an enemy in the game, and he’s the leader of the criminal organization in this territory. When finally cornered, he betrays Weiss by revealing the secret passage in the mansion to save his own life.

“Stop it, Barbaro-sama!”

“Shut up! You know what happens if you defy me!”

A scream accompanied by angry shouting echoes from the guest room. Rosalía and I exchange glances and rush into the guest room with the door left open.

As soon as we step in, the strong smell of alcohol hits our noses. There, on the sofa, is a short-haired man holding a bottle in one hand and pulling Meg’s arm with a lewd grin.

This is Barbaro… In the game, he sells out Weiss to protect himself and runs the criminal organization in this territory.

He may be the captain of the security forces now, but he’s likely abusing his power to hire his cronies as soldiers and do as he pleases. They’ll be the foundation of the future criminal organization.

Barbaro is another reason why Weiss’s territorial administration is failing.

“Ah, Lord, we got some fine liquor. Forget the meeting and join me for a drink.”

“Barbaro… let go of Meg.”

“Hahaha. What’s the matter? Why the long face?… Come to think of it, I told you about the wine, but not about the woman yet. Would you like to, Lord… sleep with this woman? Prostitutes are fine, but amateurs are the best.”

“Eek…”

Barbaro’s face shifts from surprise to a sycophantic smile when he meets my eyes. Meg, with a face full of fear, screams, but Barbaro covers her mouth.

Weiss must have been overwhelmed when he was suddenly made lord and turned to drink on Barbaro’s sweet words.

Trusting him only resulted in a scumbag like him gaining power.

“I’ll say it one more time… Barbaro, let go of Meg and attend the meeting. We need to discuss your future.”

“Lord… pointing a sword at me… what are you thinking?”

“The meeting today includes your crimes. You’ve been half-threatening merchants to buy their goods at low prices, and making false accusations to steal their profits, right? Don’t think you can get away with it forever!”

“Huh? Don’t get cocky, brat!!”

I drew my sword and pointed it at Barbaro. He yelled at me furiously, without any respect. His pride was wounded, as he thought the stupid kid he was using was now rebelling against him. It was truly unforgivable.

“Weiss-sama…”

“It’s fine, I’ll handle this.”

“Handle what, you shit?”

“Eek!”

I stopped Rosalía, who was about to cast a spell, Barbaro threw Meg towards us. I catched her, staggering under the impact but making sure she didn’t get hurt. Barbaro, meanwhile, lifts the sofa he was sitting on and prepares to swing it down on us.

++Such incredible strength…++ but that’s all he has.

“Take this!”

“You take this! How can you defend yourself with both hands occupied? Shadow arms, obey me!”

“Huh? Magic… gah…”

With a sound like a squashed frog, my shadow-formed fist uppercuts Barbaro’s chin. He spins through the air before crashing to the floor.

“Weiss-sama… what was that just now?”

“My magic. Rosalía, please take care of Meg. I’ll drag him to the meeting room.”

“Yes, good luck, Weiss-sama. Meg, are you okay?”

Rosalía nods proudly at my words and speaks to Meg, who’s staring in disbelief.

“Weiss-sama!”

As I dragged Barbaro with my shadow arm towards the meeting room, Meg called out. I turned around to see her eyes welling up with tears.

“Thank you for saving me! I misunderstood you… I said terrible things about you behind your back…”

“Don’t worry about it. I wasn’t great either. Are you hurt?”

“No, I was scared, but you saved me, so I’m fine. Now… I think everyone will recognize you as a great lord. Keep it up.”

Her words make me feel like crying too. It’s the first time someone other than Rosalía has acknowledged me. But this isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning.

“Thank you for understanding… Weiss is truly amazing.”

“Um… Weiss-sama is Weiss-sama, right? Why do you talk like he’s someone else…?”

“No, it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

Oops, got a bit carried away being praised for my favorite character. I covered it up with a smile and headed to the meeting room.
